The brains behind the Birdy bikes came from a gentleman called Markus Riese who provided the original idea for the bike in 1992. He wanted it to be a bike that had full suspension which was also foldable with the pivot point of the bike also being the folding joint. He then joined forces with Heiko Mueller and together they created the first prototype of Birdy bikes that was then launched to the biking industry and then the world.
Birdy bikes have full suspension which provides the rider with brilliant handling and a high level of comfort. Unique to the Birdy bikes design is the dual function of the swing arm pivot points that takes care of suspension and folding, thus, resulting in the bike being able to escape having a pivot in the main frame. It has a quick fold time of fifteen seconds and can be folded down to the compact size of 30×23x11 inches (76×58x28cm). It also very light, weighing in at the low weight of 9.8kg, which in turn makes it extremely easy to carry and store away.
The Birdy II Monocoque folding bike is a very fast and forward thinking bike that more than stands up for itself against its first class competitors in the full road bike market. It is the fastest of the Birdy bikes and is also the sportiest of the range featuring a Shimano Capreo 9-speed drive train.
