Folding bikes are really great, and a very convenient way to have a bike without having to use up a lot of storage space. They also make it so much easier to commute when you are living in the city. One thing that can make your folding bike even more convenient though is a folding bike bag.
Folding bike bags are useful for a number of different reasons. First of all, they can make it easier for you to carry your bike once you have folded it. They will help to keep it in a folded position, and they will protect your clothes from any dirt and grime that may have gotten onto the bike while you were riding it. They also have handles (and sometimes wheels) to make transporting the bike easier. Another good reason is that once you put the bike in the bag, no one will really be the wiser as to what you are carrying. That can save you from having to answer a lot of questions about your bike, as well as make it easier for you to bring your bike into places that normally wouldn’t allow you to bring your bike in with you.
There are two main types of folding bike bag available - those with hard sides that are a bit like suitcases, and those with soft sides that are more like duffel bags. Some brands of bags are made so that you can use them with virtually any type of folding bike, others are made specifically with a certain type of bike in mind and will most likely only work with that particular bike.
You will of course probably get the best fit if you go with a specific bag, but it might be a bit less expensive to go with one that will fit a variety of different bikes. This will also be helpful if you end up getting a different type of folding bike in the future.
Another feature to consider is whether or not the bag you are getting has wheels. Folding bikes are relatively light, but the weight can really get to you after a while if you are carrying the bike any distance. There are both hard and soft sided bags that have wheels. Hard sided folding bike bags are probably best if you are taking your bike on a plane trip since they will keep the bike from getting damaged. For regular day-to-day use a soft sided bag will probably work fine, especially if it has wheels.
